I have two movie recommendations. First, the incredibly impressive Godzilla. This movie has everything that Godzilla fans love to watch. I'm not going to give anything away, but if you have fond memories of the movies from your childhood and the 1998 version disappointed you, this film will more than make up for that and restore those smiles of joy to your cheeks. There is also great character depth without bogging down the viewer with pointless, meaningless character drivel that some directors use to make their characters seem like more than they are. You know the stuff, "Be who you choose to be", "The strength and courage was inside you all along" stuff. Those elements are great, and it was really touching when the kid from Iron Giant said it to the Iron Giant, but guess what, I wanted to see a movie about a giant, radioactive reptile who wrecked up the place, and that is what I got. Nor was it a turn-off-your-brain-and-shut-up-film. There is real tragedy in the loss of life and the sci-fi science that is in there doesn't need to spend ten minutes of narrative explaining it like Pacific Rim did, so it actually comes off as more believable.

The film's director, Gareth Edwards, paces the movie in such a way that you really care about when the monster is on the screen and what he is doing. It's a film with a backbone while being great popcorn entertainment that knows it's audience and delivers again and again. I defy you not to get emotional in a good way over some of the action scenes. But I don't want to hype it up too much. Go see it.

My other film recommendation, that's a little older. Originally from 2009, this aliens attack movie is usually referred to as a spoof or a parody of the "B" alien invasion films of the 50's, when really, it's more like the people who made those films were put in a time machine and brought to modern day Hollywood to make a new film, so it's more of a tongue-in-cheek homage than parody, in my opinion. Directed by R.W. Goodwin (Producer and sometimes director of The X-Files) and starring Eric McCormack, ( Will & Grace), it tells the usual tale of aliens come to Earth in the late 50's, scare the town's folk, people scream and run for the hills. There isn't too much brand new material in this, it's just fun. I think to fully enjoy this film, you will definitely need to be a fan of the genre. Purposely bad acting and cornball effects are what make it so entertaining because the film knows you get the joke. No really, some of the backgrounds are painted skies, like in the old episodes of Star Trek. So, if you liked The Thing...From Another World and The Invasion of the Body Snatchers, then toast up some triffids and put your feet up in the Zeta Quadrant, Alien Trespass is a go.

I saw the Godzilla film myself. Really loved it, especially how close they got to the old 50s Godzilla. The only thing i hate? How people are razzing on how "fat" he is. Seriously people.
